This bold and beautifully carved bone breastplate pendant blends two powerful Māori figures — the Manaia and the Tiki — symbolising guardianship, spiritual connection, and ancestral strength. The pendant is finished with striking pāua shell eyes, representing watchfulness, intuition, and a connection to the natural world.

The Manaia, often depicted with the body of a bird, human, and reptile, is a spiritual guardian believed to offer protection from harm and act as a guide between the physical and spiritual realms. The Tiki is a symbol of the first human, embodying fertility, strength, and connection to whakapapa (ancestry).

Together in a breastplate form, this pendant represents a powerful shield of cultural identity and strength, honouring the past while protecting the present.

Please note: Each piece is hand-carved, so variations in form, tone, and pāua inlay may occur — adding to the uniqueness of every taonga.

  • Clean gently – Use a soft cloth and warm water. Avoid harsh cleaners.

  • Avoid impact – While durable, natural materials can still chip or break.

  • Store safely – Keep your taonga in a soft pouch when not in use.

  • Respect its spirit – Many pieces carry cultural and spiritual significance. Gift or wear them with intention and aroha.

With care and respect, your taonga will remain a lasting symbol of protection, strength, and connection
